One Extraordinary Moment

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us…(John 1, 14).

The most remarkable moment of all time…the moment the Word became flesh.

That single moment was extraordinary.
It was revolutionary.
It was perfection personified.
It was absolutely astounding.
It was utterly brilliant.
It was beautiful.
It displayed amazing love and grace.
It presented the greatest gift ever given.
It was the moment when God became touchable.
It was the moment when the unseen became visible.

Imagine the wonder the angels must have experienced in that moment? God had not consulted with them before putting His plan into place. They were not privy to His plan of redemption and restoration. Yet, in that extraordinary moment, they witnessed God take the form of an innocent, vulnerable baby.

They saw the Omnipotent become dependent on a teenage girl.

The angels must have been stunned into silence for a moment. Heaven must have gone completely quiet as the Holy One entered His own creation – a world that chose sin over Him time after time after time.

They watched marvelous Light enter a dark, depraved, despairing world.

And then … what delight was surely experienced by the angel chosen to share this wondrous event with the shepherds. “Good news of great joy that is for all people I bring you. The Savior is born – Christ the Lord.”

Finally, when the multitude of angels could no longer keep silent, they joined in praise, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is well pleased.”

Finally…peace! The Prince of Peace arrived. Peace with God and peace with one another became possible. The peace longed for by every heart was made available to all.

I pray that many will accept God’s gift of peace this Christmas season. And I pray that I will be struck with angelic wonder. Word became flesh!!!!
